I was born in 1958, in Monroe, Louisiana and joined the faculty of the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music in 1991, where I'm currently Professor of Composition. From 1991 to 1998 I also became Composer in Residence of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. I'm best known for my concert band works, most of which have become repertoire standards.

I don't know this one without "cheating" (ie, looking it up). I'll let someone else have a go at it before cheating and researching it.
BTW, this is a good, though somewhat expensive "music appreciation" class (it's helped me a lot for music history):

I didn't take any music classes at university...should have.
