Default Does Anyone Else Out There Compose

I was just wondering if anyone else on VSM composed and I know that Mr. Ferrari is a composer. If you do then just describe what you compose (Ins., Genre, etc.). Composing has gotten me through many times that were very difficult in my life (they won't be that big of deals when I'm older, but since I'm only 16 they do have a large impact on my life). Also if anyone is a lyricist I would enjoy doing some collaborations on pieces, because my lyrics are just bad.

I Compose alot of music, I usually dont write in specific eras, but I follow forms such as the sonata form, the fugal form and etc.

I Have composed so far
The first 2 movements of a C-minor Symphony
2 full piano sonatas
15 or so minuets and small pieces
the exposition of a first movement of a piano concerto
2 mini fugues (both c-minor)
I have transcribed Beethovens C-minor Symphony first movement for string orchestra
2 Requiem movements "requiem" and "Dies Irae"
1 toccata

Haven't had time to read all the entries except for last one (Mahmood). Oh yes, I compose all right. It's so good to find out there are others who do, especially classical. I've done a bit of everything and have made a record but my main bent is classical. My main instrument is piano. I don't read music too well though. Anyway hope to revisit this site soon. Thought I'd just say hi.

I compose music, but I don't know the specifications for different styles of music writing. Can someone tell me anything about different styles of music writing?

yes, are you familiar with the sonata form, or the fugal form? there are others , but I am not sure if you are talking about classical, baroque, or romantic, or modern music, make sure to let me know.

Well, what I mean is what does it take for a song to be a sonata or fugue? How do you write for different musical eras like baroque or romantic? I guess that I'm just a little bit confused on how I should go about writing in styles and eras.

How did you compose the Toccata? What style? Is it in a minor key?
Please let me know...,

I wrote in in C-minor (of course) The toccata form, I believe is not strict, written like a fantasy I read in books.

I really don't write in a specific style, just whatever comes into my head

I am a lyricist. Maybe we need to collaborate indeed.

I have found that I am a spectacularly average composer - of all the things we had to compose for college theory class, the only one I did that I really liked was a minuet and trio (written in G-flat, just because).

My only other composition that I've even really considered to be above average is a Latin Mass...inspired by singing them three years in a row in an honors choir, and running into tenor parts that sat in the D-E-F-G range forever. If I remember correctly - has been several years since I looked at it - the tenor parts in mine don't go above an F, and don't set up shop in the vocal break area for pages at a time. The tenor soloist, on the other hand...

Over the 15 years that I've been teaching, I have gotten pretty good at arranging - mainly from piano/vocal to string ensemble, although I have done a few junior high band arrangements (three for my master's thesis project).

One of "my kids" asked me if I could set a poem she wrote to music as a present for her boyfriend (now husband). She thought it was great...I thought it was okay.

Sanity is highly overrated. I tried it once, but didn't like it.
If you don't think I'm insane - I play bassoon. And viola. And teach middle school. (What's your excuse?)
