help choosing a duet
i play the flute and piccolo, and choosing a duet for my friend and i is always difficult, because we have very different styles of playing. he has a more .... minor, dark sound, and i have a warmer, brighter sound. so choosing a duet is always hard. help!

Quick question, can neither of you develop a different sound. It really can't be that hard unless it is the instrument... Because your tone is, at least in my experiences, directly related to the emotion theat you yourself put into that instrument, that song, and that breath. So have either you or your friend try to play in the others mood and see which one that you guys like better, and then decide on what piece to play.

Don't go by how you play. Find something you both will find fun to play, but difficult all at the same time. Don't go by how it sounds, but on how you two will put it together. Use the technicality of the piece, instead of the style of the piece. Does that make any sense?

Are you looking to play the entire piece together? I am sure you guys can find a piece that will compliment both of your styles. When you guys practice together, give feedback to one another to really make the piece special. If you need help finding a piece ask your private lesson tutor, usually they can pick one that will be challenging.

Do a good research on internet and you will get enough options of memorable duet songs.
