If you mean: how do you remove an unwanted portion of an mp3/wav/etc., then I recommend a program called Audacity. Try to do a search on Google for it. Not only is it powerful and easy to use, it's free!

I think you want to remove unwanted sound before recoring or after recording but to remove unwanted area you can use FlexiMusic Wave Editor. See here http://www.fleximusic.com/waveditor/audioeditor.htm
