Default cello suite fingerings

Hi Mr. Ferrari, I enjoy you site very much; it saves me so much money! Anyway, where did the bowings in your edition of the Bach cello suites come from? Are they from the autograph, or a printed edition, or are they yours? Thanks.

Hi and thank you for your kind post.

Well, if you mean the "slurs" they are from the original autograph, actually I don't remember to have added actual bow markings there...

Please, let me know if I am missing something.

Thank you again!

Sincerely,

Oh, I'm sorry. Yes, I meant the slurs. Thanks!

cello suite fingerings have always been a point of contention in the cello world. And we do not have a manuscript copy of Bach's cello suites of the cello suite fingerings in his own handwriting. The best we have are three manuscripts that may be hand-copied from the original: the Anna Magdalena Bach.
