looking for an instrument

Hi, I've played violin for a few years and have decided to pick up the viola. The viola I have sounds pretty nice but is not terribly expensive. When I draw the bow any harder than a mezzo forte the C string (and the G to a much smaller degree) goes sharp in a pretty hideous way. I've heard that many lower end instruments do this, but I was wondering if there was a way to minimize or even fix such a problem. Thanks

That issue my depends by several factors such as:

1. The construction of your instrument (fingerboard and bridge may be the cause)

2. The string could be too think for your instrument

3. The bow could be too heavy

4. You may need some practice to adjust your arm weight on the your new instrument.

Any idea about the above?
