Thomastik strings
My violin came with Thomastik Dominant strings. I was looking to pick up a replacement set in a couple of months, just to have on hand and eventually to replace the original set.
I was just going to buy another set of Dominants, but I was curious if anyone had experience with some of their other strings such as Infeld Red or Blue and Vision. Is it worth the extra $10-15 for a set of these? (Considering I'm a relatively new student). My violin is of reasonably good quality (not super expensive, but not an 'intro' model either).
Thanks!

Hello and thank you for your post.
I never used Infeld Red or Blue and Vision strings, but about Dominant strings they are ok on instruments with not too high harmonics (in other words, not with too bright sound). If you instrument is a bright sound instrument, you may try to use Corelli strings, they are sweeter than Dominant and still you have strong sound.
Just my thought...
Best,

I went to the shop where I got my violin and talked to them about strings. Since they sell this model, they have a lot of experience with different string sets on this particular model. I ended up picking up Pirastro Evah Pirazzi strings. Will probably put them on in the next few weeks and see if I notice a huge difference.

Sort of forgot about this thread.... I've been playing the new strings for a bit. I don't see a huge sound improvement with them; however, since I've been playing for only about 9 months, my bowing technique probably doesn't do them justice. However, they definitely are more responsive than the Thomastiks. They seem to be a good fit for my violin.
So, honestly, for someone at my level of playing, the extra money probably wasn't it worth it. However, I think and advanced player would like them.

Has anyone tried Eva Paresi(sp?)? If so do you like them?

I have never used them, but I heard from someone that they brake must faster (not sure if this is actually true but just a fact).
