Question Bach - symphonies?

(Johann Sebatian) Bach wrote from minuets, to partitas, to requiems, to many sonatas, chorales, and so much other (master)pieces. But did he write any symphonies at all? It is strange, after all Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (his second son from his first wife) did write six sets of awesome string symphonies...Did his father write any? Please tell me if you know!!!
Sincerely,
Sylvia

Default Symphonies in the Baroque period?

I don't know that symphonies were written during Bach's time. No composer that I know of wrote symphonies before the early classical period. Maybe Mr. Ferrari can shed some light on this.

given that Bach had 22 children, it doesn't surprise me that he had two wives! I think the first one must have worn out through exhaustion.
( I don't think he had the wives simultaneously......)
Didn't he write the Anna Magdalena Notebook for his second wife to learn to play clavier?
The symphonic form doesn't exist at the time of Bach, which would make it difficult for him to write one. Bit like all the tuba parts he didn't write either.....!

22 kids... Your body must get darn pretty tired (If it was just ONE mom!).... always pregnant, just been pregnant, or just about to be pregnant...

Not all his kids lived right? In Bach's time did they have forms of contraception, (sorry for the dumb question.). I know like the "pill" and stuff like that are more "new" types of contraception, but did they have ways of contraception in Bach's time?

*Lacks on contraception History Time Line* LoL

Hello guys.

The concept of "Symphony" started at the end of the 18th century, so after Bach's death. The symphony is an extension of the string quartet concept which is not properly of the Baroque period where Bach's belong.

All the best,
