My brother plays all recorders.
When practices the Sopranino he wears hearing protection.

 That's a smart brother you got there. I don't think I'd be able to play anything where I'd need hearing protection.

You might consider getting the electronic kind of earplugs that shooters use.
They only block sounds above a certain dbl.

Nah, I've already got a pair of earplugs that work extremely well (I got them from woodwind brasswind...they're used by most orchestral musicians). Thanks for the advice though

When I think about it...they probably wouldn't work that well for musicians.
One of the reasons I switched from violin to viola was that I don't like high pitched noise.

Yeah, see...I LOVE high notes....I'm one of those annoying piccolo players that play everything they possibly can up an octave, then see how long I can hold out high C (5 1/2 ledger lines above)...
