Default Yet ANOTHER new user.

Hello, everyone! My name's Marie, and I just started playing flute last Christmas. My flute's name is Pericles, by the way-I couldn't consider spending as much time as I do with my darling without naming him. Anyways, I'm self-taught, so you'll probably be hearing lots of seemingly rhetorical questions from me. I'm so glad I stumbled across a place where I can converse with other musicians!

Alright good to have you here!

Answer to your first question: "What key is my flute in?"

Answer: Your flute is in the key of "C"

(Grin) Thanks a lot. Actually, (sheepish look) while I knew that tidbit of information, I'm not clear on what it means if an instrument is in a certain key. Does it refer to the lowest note the instrument can obtain?

Welcome!!

As for your question about the key, it basically means what the pitch of the instrument is. Involves key scales/key signatures. I am not good at explaing things involving scales/key signatures so I'm giving up here.

Oh, that's easy! If you tape a piece of chalk to the end of your flute and blindfold your self, and start swinging it around, the first legible mark that you'll make on the wall that you hit will be a "C."

Honest!

Hmm, I wonder if my music store sells the blindfolds and chalk?
