Yeah, that was too easy. Soon as you say "great violin player" for a composer it's like 90% going to be Pagannni. Hmm... I'm not too good at this
All right, someone else take a shot.

Contemporary Composer (I have a classical one coming, just wait)
Okay, here...I'll shoot. I'm gonna post a classical one in a minute...but first I wanna do a contemporary composer...just to see if people are up to date (or are really good researchers. lol)
I was born in 1958, in Monroe, Louisiana and joined the faculty of the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music in 1991, where I'm currently Professor of Composition. From 1991 to 1998 I also became Composer in Residence of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. I'm best known for my concert band works, most of which have become repertoire standards.

Classical Composer
Okay...here's a classical composer to look at:
I was born in Germany, 1685
Though born in Germany, I probably made most of my name for myself in London, England where he came to dominate the English music-making “scene”. I composed a large number of operas, but these did not tend to do so well, prompting me to shift to the oratorio form.

Handel, right? Isn't he the one that got in a bit of trouble for hanging out in England for so long?

I don't know this one without "cheating" (ie, looking it up). I'll let someone else have a go at it before cheating and researching it.
BTW, this is a good, though somewhat expensive "music appreciation" class (it's helped me a lot for music history):

I didn't take any music classes at university...should have.

I'll give you a biography and you name that composer!
We'll start with a super easy one:
I was born in 1732 in Rohrau. I was a leading composer of the Classical period. I'm sometimes known as the "Father of the Symphony". I was also known by my nickname, "Papa". Who am I?

Why did you take this away from us?
