Default Student Bows

I'm looking for a student (beginner) bow (1/8 size) for my son. The violin he has actually sounds pretty good, but the bow is pretty awful.

Has anyone tried something like the "Student" brand on SWStrings?

http://www.swstrings.com/Store/Shop...iolin&Group=VB1

Any reason to not get an octagonal bow for a new player? I play on an octagonal bow, so I'm sort of biased towards them.

Any recommendations on an inexpensive, but decent bow would be appreciated.

Talking to myself here...

I ordered the bow listed above. It doesn't seem that horrible (for like $29). It's MUCH better than the beginner bow that came with the violin. We'll have to see how it holds up under use by a kid, but it actually seems pretty nice.

How's your son doing on his violin? I'm sure it's really cute to watch him play it!!

We are going to try a 'real' lesson this week, and see how it goes. I was comparing the two bows, and this one is a lot nicer. Pretty decent, definitely, for $29. My son likes octagons (stop sign shape), so he was pretty excited to have an octagonal bow

I was trying to teach him a few things, but I realized pretty quickly that I have no idea what I'm doing as far as teaching a kid to start learning music.

I was impressed that he did remember the strings, though! I didn't think he'd be able to remember all 4.

I saw on the news yesterday that there's a 4 yo boy who plays the trumpet. He picked one up at his grandparents house and wanted to play it so his mom showed him how to blow into and pretty soon he was playing. He plays with a jazz band once a week, he's so cute!! His teacher said that it took him a week to learn what 8th and 9th graders take years to learn! This kid is a natural! God's really blessed him with an awesome talent.
