Blended Worship Music Discussion
What Is Blended Worship?
Blended worship (also termed convergence worship) may be generally defined as a worship service which employs a combination of traditional and contemporary elements (especially music).
As much as I would like to keep beautiful music in the Church, I realize that Contemporary Christian music is going to be here for a while.
What situations do you you find yourselves in?
Have you changed Churches because of the music?
What kind of music do you prefer in Church?

Oooo, we'll have fun with this discussion.
Um, I perfer the good old hymns. I don't like any other instruments in church other than piano and organ, I think all the other instruments (ie guitar, drums, etc) put all the attention on the music and not only on worshipping God. My aunt attend a Calvary Chapel and I can't stand to go to her church with her. Everyone seems to be in a trance during the "worship service". I don't like it at all! God says to be in the world but not of it, to come out and be separate and having "contemporary" music in the church is putting the world in the church. That's not right! The church should not change they're style of music just because it will get the people to come, they should be separate from the world!
What about you? What kind of music do you like?

This is a juicy one....isn't it?
"What about you? What kind of music do you like?"
My personal preference is traditional with orchestrations. This is probably the same way that YKB feels.
I'm doing what I can in my own church to at least re-introduce beautiful music.
What upsets me the most about all the Rock elements in CCW is that it is disrespectful of the elderly members of our congregation.

What do you mean by "orchestrations"?
How is it disrespectful to the elderly members???

Some churches are blessed with "orchestra musicians" such as YKB and myself.
Examples would be strings woodwinds brass etc.
A good music director would provide orchestrations for the purpose of enhancing the worship service. Much in the same way that an Organ would.
How many 70 year olds do you know who like Rock music?

Oh ok. I might be ok with that, depending on how much. Kwim? Our music director can't read music to save his life and he doesn't do any "directing" at all! That's why I have such a hard time playing piano with him, he doesn't read the music right and 90% of the time has the wrong tune. It definitely make the worship service interesting!! My dad wants to take over the music since he knows how to read and direct it and I play a lot better with my dad!
*smacks forehead* DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you call a "music director" I would call a "worship leader" or someone who leads the song service.
In a large church, the music director doesn't neccesarily lead the song/worship service.
Orchestrations don't apply to worship/praise bands. They read lead charts.

"I don't like any other instruments in church other than piano and organ"
Back in the '80s our church nearly purchased a nice Rodgers Organ.
We don't use any organ now.
