Hi TVL.

How many hours a day are you playing? Did you start to play more than before recently? When?

Usually that's normal when you begin to study for hours, but after some day the pain goes away...

Let us know.

best,

Hallo everyone

Yes, pain is bad... It's your body's way of saying "HEY, STOP DOING THIS, YOU SILLY!!!" So if you feel pain somewhere you're probably doing something wrong. If you're absolutely sure you're not playing in a wrong position all of a sudden, maybe you should look in the way you sleep; maybe you slept on your left side in a bad position, in that case you're bound to have a bit of trouble. If it's none of that, well, you're still growing, we all get pains for nothing now and then, and it's most likely that it'll go away in a few days or weeks. It happens to me too. I hope this helps. And if you are playing more than before, do it gradually.

Have a nice day!!

I forgot to say that you might as well put some ice on your wrist after you've been playing if it hurts, I have to do that too, and try refraining other activities such as riding your bike, if you do, which does your wrist no good.

HAAAAAAAAAAAA Carpel tunnel is indeed very popular!!! Especially amongst violinists and violists, and people who spend a lot of time writing on the computer. So I should take good care because it's not the nicest thing that could happen to you!!! It's not too bad, some severe cases require surgery but most can heal with rest and anti-inflammatory creams and stuff. But a thing like this leaves you damaged for ever, it's like a sprain. I fact, it's the inflammation of a tendon whose name I don't know in English but you can imagine which one it is. So take care.

About your shaky hands, well it probably has nothing to do with it. Is it a shaky left hand or is it both hands? If it's just the left maybe you're overdoing the muscles in your hand. Pain is a very funny thing and in some cases it doesn't appear when it should. I'd go and see a doctor if I were you. If it's both hands, forget about it, some people don't have much wrist-steadiness and it doesn't have much to do with violin or viola-playing.

I really hope it's nothing serious. Have a good day!!

Can flutists get it to? My left wrist has gotten extremely weak this year since I've been playing more and more. It got so bad one day I couldn't stand to write, much less play. Is it normal that my left wrist can pop out of place and pop really funny if I rotate it? (The other one doesn't do this)
