Transposing 3
In my Peter Gunn music, I am in b flat major. and YKB told me to change it to e major but, my sax is key of e flat major. Which one should I do? When I tried to change it e flat major, the e flat went to a C.
|

Correction
Hey, I must not have made myself clear. When transposing on a sax, you always add three sharps. So, if your music is in 3 flats, you will be playing in Key of C. (No sharps no flats) If your music is in two #'s you will be playing in 5 #'s. If in 6 flats, you'll be doing 3 flat etc. I think you should get it. Let me know if you have any more questions, I'll be happy to help!  Transposing on sax is hard. Me, being a trumpet player, I have to transpose alot in orchestra as well. For instance, this season we are playing several diff. pieces and only one is written for a trumpet in my key....

Then you would be playing in 2 sharps.

What do you mean?
If the music's in 2 #'s you will be playing in 5 #'s (B major)

Hi sax, I might be wrong (don't be surprised if I am) but all the songs I've ever seen with 2 sharps, it's always been C and F

Oh, the "sub-rule" is that a flat cancels a sharp. Therefore, if the music is in on flat, add 3 #'s, one sharp will cancel the Bb, the other 2 will make it in 2 #'s making it key of D.
