A violinist friend of mine is trying out a violin and a new carbon fiber bow. I held the bow and it is very lightweight. He's not sure if he likes it yet. I think is is an Arcus.

I've looked at it. I'd like to sit down with about 20 bows and compare them. Same for strings....well not 20....more like 6 different.
There seems to be a lot of combinations available.
Strings
Bow
Rosin
Instrument.........

Hmmmmm.....

I was expecting more activity on this topic.
Hasn't anyone even tried a carbon fiber bow?
I might head to the shop after work tomorow and try some out.

I tried it several times and I must say that was much better of what I expected. I always played on "standard" bows, even very good bows like Tourte's or Vuillaume's, so I expected a quasi-plastic bow with carbon filter... instead, I found it absolutely close to real bows. Obviously there are different qualities of any price around... but the best ones are very good "instruments".

I plan to buy one in the next future because I think it really worth (above all, don't forget, they are VERY resistant!)

Best,
