I played the first couple of pages and felt that something was missing. There didn't appear to be a major theme or melody. So, I took it to piano class and the teacher started playing it and got to page 3 or 4 and decided that this was a level 14 or so piece/arrangement. Also the repetitive left hand notes are buried in this flowery addition that adds nothing to the piece. Then I realized that perhaps the arranger tried to include the violin and cello, or some other instrument from the original, by embellishing the right hand and left hand significantly. It didn't work in my opinion. Not sure the arranger is a piano player!
learning to play more difficult piecesby Donna(MEMBER)on February 11th, 2013
I have been playing a much simpler piece of this music and this is a nice jump for me. It sounds much nicer and I can play the whole piece slowly just need to keep practicing till I can play it full speed. I am self taught and am not good at reading the time signatures so I love that I can listen to the timing on the site.
Wonderful musicby anonymouson June 4th, 2011
Several good variations of the same theme.
excellentby anonymouson July 29th, 2010
i've been looking for a really good transcription for canon over the years, and this one really fits the bill. it may prove difficult if approached with a fast tempo, but otherwise it is manageable and very beautiful.
Fabulous, excellent!by anonymouson June 9th, 2010
This is the by far the best arrangement I've ever laid my hands on. Though it's a bit challenging because the score is very dense, it is very close to the original for strings. Thanks very much virtual music!
J.Pachelbel: Canon in D & Gigueby anonymouson November 16th, 2009
I teach piano and one of my pupils had bought an arrangement of this piece of music that I wasn't keen on. The difficulty in finding a good arrangement stems from the fact that the original was for stringed instruments. I was lucky that I came across this website where the first page of the music could be downloaded for free. As soon as I'd played it, I knew it was just what I was looking for. Thanks to Virtual Sheet Music for making it so easy to buy and download, I'm absolutely delighted with this arrangement!
I'd say the standard is Grade 5
Not ideal for piano...by Jan Rosenvinge, Norwayon August 20th, 2009
I found the score quite useful, after I had simplified and shortened it. So many parallell octaves and thirds are not very comfortable to play! I´m sure the transcription for piano could have been made easier, but still of a good quality.

i love this version, it sounds better than other version
More difficult than anticipated!by anonymouson June 3rd, 2009
Looking at the front page (which is all they give you), I thought "no problem, I can play this!" Yeahhh...until you look at the next few pages. It's definitely high-difficulty.

Beautiful arrangement, but a fingering challengeby anonymouson December 8th, 2008
This is simply beautiful, but I agree with other comments that it is a challenge to get the fingering right. It will be so worth it to know this lovely arrangement, though.
Worth the Workby Dale Orthneron October 10th, 2008
The arrangement sounds like George Winston wrote it. The 32nd notes require efficient fingering to play cleanly. The keys well off the staff take some getting used to. However, the melody, brilliance, and harmony of the piece are truly inspiring. The effort required to play it well will be rewarded many times over. Could not find this version anywhere for free, nor was any free version even close in quality.
Just wonderful!by anonymouson June 18th, 2008
This arrangement for the piano is just wonderful! Out of all the versions I found for this piece of music, this version was the best!
