A great rhythmic workout for violinists. They are complex enough to make a player occasionally doubt whether she's "in sync" with her partner, then ultimately satisfying in the spots where the harmony evolves into melodic chords. These are more fun for the players than the audience, I think. Canons generally fall into that category.
