Having just broken up with my then girlfriend in Amsterdam, I found myself in a hotel in Paris running out of money. So I decided to call my grandmother. But as we were talking, I ended up not asking her for anything, and instead decided to play my violin in the streets. Busking. I didn't realize I needed clothes pins to hold the music if it was windy. So I went to a store to buy them, but some French stores back then did not display things. So I said "Je voudrais", and suddenly realized that I did not know how to say clothes pins in French. So I held my clothes up like this to show him what I was looking for and he laughed. After a bit though, he found them, and I let out a huge sigh of relief.
