The Many Stories of Bill Fitzpatrick: Life LessonHow music teaches you good life lessonsIn this video, Prof. Fitzpatrick tells you a "life lesson" story. Video TranscriptionI was accustomed to sitting near the front of the 1st violin section but at the All State Orchestra auditions I took things too lightly and when I walked into the 1st rehearsal my seat was near the back. I was totally humiliated. After the rehearsal I went to my grandmother who was waiting for me outside in her car and told her what had happened. I said that I did not want to return. She then said to me with a very firm voice that I must return, I could not run away. With those words she taught me a life lesson. When you get knocked down you get back up, wipe yourself off and keep at it! You never give up, and certainly never run away. And so I returned. I am glad you decided not to give up and run away. This story reminded of Jesus words “ First will be last and last first.” I think Jesus was teaching the disciples not to get attached to positions. Dr Fitzpatrick you learned early not to get attached to chair.
