I used to have this little visual thing that I did with young students, which was I would put a balloon, imaginary, here and here. I would say the balloon was filled with hydrogen and it was holding up their arm. That would say, see, these are scissors.

Up, your arm is still up. You don't believe it. We'll get the balloons, put them back. And here we go, there and there.

Okay, scissors. Up, their arm would fall. You see, this was the first part of a bow stroke, going down.
