New Compositions
I am gathering ideas for my next composition and i was going to do an arrangement using classical music from the greats and mix them altogether. One that will fit together nice, and one that will come together to give an atonal feel to the piece, with bitonal sections.
Does anyone have any suggestions on which pieces to use?
Thanks

That's a great challenge! Do you have any preferred style or group of composers? That's really personal...
All the best,

Thanks for your reply.
I'm not sure. I dont know whether to start with a four movement piece - say string quartet that splits into the four periods of music. So the first movement will be within the renaissance style, then baroque style, then classical, and romantic ... so like tallis/byrd, bach/handel, mozart/beethoven, rachmaninoff/liszt.
So do i leave it at that for now, or do I pick two composers for each and make them either fit or place them on top of each other so they clash??? Not sure... Usually when i compose i go with the flow of what sounds nice/right to me. But for this one I want to totally plan it. Not intricatly like Schoenburg though lol...

Wow... that's interesting. Do you plan to keep the original composition and just "mix" them or to modify, re-arrange them in a completely new way to create a new composition?
Best,

Both within time i think... Probably just keep them as they are and mix them first. Then I could use themes from them and extend in to my own arrangement. Endless options. Want it to be great though.
Thanks for taking an interest. Just going to find some scores and study them inside out first. Best put my music degree to use. hee
Thanks again - good to know your thoughts.

See F. Ferrari's Etudes, Scales, and Arpeggios for Cello on VSM.

That sounds like a very interesting project. I play violin but have never tried to compose anything. I wonder if I would be any good at it. Good luck with your effort and it would be cool to hear it!
