 | The full range of musicality in 6 pieces by Kara Dahl Russell on May 15th, 2008 |
| I adore this group of 6 bagatelles. I purchased it for the waltz, but found a sleeper favorite in The Cantabile (which starts seriously and ends with silliness). Sor was known as the "Beethoven of the quitar" ... his musical style is more like Mozart. Filled with precision, interesting rhythms and even funny musical quips, his work used to be standard repertoire, and should remain. These six pieces range from medium to challenging, some quick and easy, others will require work. The fifth piece was often mimicked for silent movie music and has "themes" of a villian and a heroine... the complex chords of this make it more challenging. Sor is not for the lightweight, but this music is so VERY rewarding. | Add your own review!
