Schubert's Ständchen Compared to Schumann's T  by (MEMBER) on December 1st, 2013
I have loved both of these pieces for as long as I can remember, and I have been playing the piano since the age of 5. I'll be 87 years old next year. Schubert's Ständchen is a bit longer and a bit more complicated to learn to play. Traumerei is about medium difficulty, compared to my estimate of Ständchen as being medium-high in technical difficulty, so far as learning to play them. Musically the structure of each is easy to understand. And in mood, they are somewhat similar. Both have memorable melodies and are quiet and pensive in mood. They are in the repertoire of the most highly revered pianists of the 20th century, such as Vladimir Horowitz and Alfred Brendel. You can find recordings of both in Youtube uploads.

Serenade by Schubert  by on March 5th, 2013
Very beautiful arrangements by Franz Liszt, both a simpler and more difficult arrangement given to this lovely melody from Schubert

Franz Schubert: Serenade "Standchen" for piano sol  by on January 19th, 2013
This piece is complicated to play because of the number and position of the notes each hand must play simultaneously. No fingering guide is provided.

List Schubert Seranade  by (MEMBER) on October 24th, 2012
I happened to hear a snippet of this beautiful compostion on u tube recently. In hadn't heard it since I was a teenager many years ago and I recall learning a simplified version of it then. This Franz List transcription is very uplifting and I can't wait to perfect it. I might add I'm a retired music teacher. There is some beautiful sonority throughout the piece which is more difficult than at first sight. The melody where it commences in the bass and marked 'il canto' is haunting and the 'echo' of the theme further enhances that melody. It is a masterpiece - what else could one expect from the combined genius of List and Schubert! I look forward to many hours of enjoyment of this transcripted piece of music and recommend it to anyone who loves the piano. The edition by Virtualsheetmusic is very clear and well spread out.

I don't read music but I can hear it in my mind's ear - and it sure looks impressive on the sheets. Thank you.

F. Schubert: Staendchen piano arr. F Liszt.  by on July 9th, 2011
I am very content with this opportunity to buy sheet music. For me this Liszt arrangement for piano from this Schubert song was difficult to obtain! Thanks!
