 | Bach's "Little" Fugue in G Minor by Mike Serpa on September 13th, 2009 |
| I have been playing Piano for many years and heard this piece being played on a piano in the movie "Elegy" and suddenly realized that I could get this piece for piano only. I think this transcription was done pretty well. You can tell that the organ pedal tones are missing, but that is to be expected. The basic intertwining of the melody and the accompanying counterpoint has been preserved. It would have been useful to include a suggested tempo. Contrary to a lot of thinking the tempo on this fugue is quite slow, which allows for a lot of drama near the end when the "Joy of Bach" starts to be felt. There is the possiblity of playing some partial bass passages with the right hand and vice versa. It depends on the indiviual skill of the pianist. There is only a single place in the entire piece that indicates one hand must be used at a specific point. This is a fun piece to learn but the fingering must be clearly established before you start. | | | Fingering by John Ives on August 9th, 2009 |
| Nicely presented. Clearly printed.
As with any Bach, some suggested fingerings would be helpful. But perhaps generation of appropriate fingerings is just part of the exercise! | Add your own review!
