So, Professor Fitzpatrick is about to start working on getting this piece better.

Okay, so he's starting to play.

Look at him concentrate.

Wow, I mean he's really concentrating.

Hmm, but is the rondo' really getting better? I mean just because when you practice you concentrate, does that mean you will magically be able to do it better? Well, I think to be able to do it better, we need to know what we need to do to do it better.

Well, first of all, we need to be aware.

To be aware as a violinist means that you hear, see, and feel the details of the music along with the physical activities needed to accomplish those details.

The details gathered from being aware will lead us to understanding where we need to put our attention, what we need to work on to then do it better.

That said, it's important to filter out any details that are not needed.

You see, managing where we put our attention is critical to understanding how we can do it better.

Finally, we need to focus on the details we have decided to put our attention on.

But, do understand that focusing goes beyond simply paying attention.

Focusing involves putting all our mental energy and resources on those details and be able to do this for an extended period of time. But, maintaining this kind of focus can be challenging as it means that we must resist distractions.

You know, like suddenly needing to text someone, or randomly looking at your watch, or thinking about what you're going to do later, those kind of things. So to sum it all up, getting a better understanding of this process can improve our ability to concentrate.

And this means that after a while, we will be able to do it better.
