Reviews about Canon in D and Gigue:

Beautifully arranged! It could not be better!
Rating: 2 Not a level 5-6 by on November 9, 2014 @12:54 pm PST
I played the first couple of pages and felt that something was missing. There didn't appear to be a major theme or melody. So, I took it to piano class and the teacher started playing it and got to page 3 or 4 and decided that this was a level 14 or so piece/arrangement. Also the repetitive left hand notes are buried in this flowery addition that adds nothing to the piece. Then I realized that perhaps the arranger tried to include the violin and cello, or some other instrument from the original, by embellishing the right hand and left hand significantly. It didn't work in my opinion. Not sure the arranger is a piano player!
Rating: 5 learning to play more difficult pieces by  * VSM MEMBER * on February 11, 2013 @10:19 am PST
I have been playing a much simpler piece of this music and this is a nice jump for me. It sounds much nicer and I can play the whole piece slowly just need to keep practicing till I can play it full speed. I am self taught and am not good at reading the time signatures so I love that I can listen to the timing on the site.

Several good variations of the same theme.

i've been looking for a really good transcription for canon over the years, and this one really fits the bill. it may prove difficult if approached with a fast tempo, but otherwise it is manageable and very beautiful.
Rating: 5 Fabulous, excellent! by on June 9, 2010 @1:29 pm PST
This is the by far the best arrangement I've ever laid my hands on. Though it's a bit challenging because the score is very dense, it is very close to the original for strings. Thanks very much virtual music!

I teach piano and one of my pupils had bought an arrangement of this piece of music that I wasn't keen on. The difficulty in finding a good arrangement stems from the fact that the original was for stringed instruments. I was lucky that I came across this website where the first page of the music could be downloaded for free. As soon as I'd played it, I knew it was just what I was looking for. Thanks to Virtual Sheet Music for making it so easy to buy and download, I'm absolutely delighted with this arrangement!
I'd say the standard is Grade 5
Rating: 3 Not ideal for piano... by on August 20, 2009 @4:44 am PST
I found the score quite useful, after I had simplified and shortened it. So many parallell octaves and thirds are not very comfortable to play! I´m sure the transcription for piano could have been made easier, but still of a good quality.

Rating: 4 More difficult than anticipated! by on June 3, 2009 @8:27 am PST
Looking at the front page (which is all they give you), I thought "no problem, I can play this!" Yeahhh...until you look at the next few pages. It's definitely high-difficulty.
