If I'm reviewing the ease and convenience of ordering the music I
have no complaints; it was easy and convenient. As for playing the
music I lost my ability to play almost completely a couple of years
ago. Brain-hand connection and tremors, etc. But I've been obsessing over the tune Serenade and decided to order it and see
if I could master that while regaining the ability to play. I'm 81 and
have had 7 heart attacks plus other impairments so I have my work
cut out for me. I'll let you know how it goes. The score is challenging but I am tackling it.

Rating: 5 Schubert "Standchen" transcrbed by Liszt by on July 26, 2014 @2:10 am PST
A wonderful transcription for the piano of one of Schubert's songs written in the last months of his life. Transcribed by Liszt in a truly and very effective pianistic style.
Not a piece for the beginner, but well worth the time and effort to learn.
Rating: 5 Schubert's Ständchen Compared to Schumann's T by  * VSM MEMBER * on December 1, 2013 @5:57 am PST
I have loved both of these pieces for as long as I can remember, and I have been playing the piano since the age of 5. I'll be 87 years old next year.

Schubert's Ständchen is a bit longer and a bit more complicated to learn to play. Traumerei is about medium difficulty, compared to my estimate of Ständchen as being medium-high in technical difficulty, so far as learning to play them. Musically the structure of each is easy to understand. And in mood, they are somewhat similar. Both have memorable melodies and are quiet and pensive in mood. They are in the repertoire of the most highly revered pianists of the 20th century, such as Vladimir Horowitz and Alfred Brendel. You can find recordings of both in Youtube uploads.

Very beautiful arrangements by Franz Liszt, both a simpler and more difficult arrangement given to this lovely melody from Schubert
Rating: 4 Franz Schubert: Serenade "Standchen" for piano sol by on January 19, 2013 @3:26 am PST
This piece is complicated to play because of the number and position of the notes each hand must play simultaneously.

No fingering guide is provided.
Rating: 5 List Schubert Seranade by  * VSM MEMBER * on October 24, 2012 @3:52 pm PST
I happened to hear a snippet of this beautiful compostion on u tube recently. In hadn't heard it since I was a teenager many years ago and I recall learning a simplified version of it then.
This Franz List transcription is very uplifting and I can't wait to perfect it. I might add I'm a retired music teacher.
There is some beautiful sonority throughout the piece which is more difficult than at first sight. The melody where it commences in the bass and marked 'il canto' is haunting and the 'echo' of the theme further enhances that melody.
It is a masterpiece - what else could one expect from the combined genius of List and Schubert!
I look forward to many hours of enjoyment of this transcripted piece of music and recommend it to anyone who loves the piano.
The edition by Virtualsheetmusic is very clear and well spread out.
